Create add-ons and offer them with dishes

Group the choices guests make about a dish — milk, toppings, sauces — with their prices and limits, and offer them with dishes menu by menu.

An add-on is a group of choices a guest makes about a dish: which milk goes in the coffee, which toppings go on the pizza, which sauce comes with the fries. Each choice is an option with its own name and price, which is added to the dish's price. You create an add-on once under Add-ons and offer it with as many dishes as you like.

  1. Edit opens the whole add-on, rules included.
  2. Usage lists the dishes that offer it.
  3. Add option adds a choice right here.

Create an add-on

Who can do this: Owner, Admin, Content manager, and Content editor

  1. Open the form

Open Add-ons and select New addon.

  2. Name it

Enter the Name guests will read, such as "Milk" or "Toppings", in each of your languages. Your default language is required.

  3. Set the choice rules

Under Choice rules, choose the Selection type and how many options a guest picks.

    1. The option's tags and allergens.
    2. The option's portion and calories.
    • Min options is how many options a guest must pick.
    • Max options is how many they may pick. Empty means no limit.

Exactly one choice, which guests must make (the milk for a latte)Single choice, Min options 1
One choice or none (an optional syrup)Single choice, Min options 0
Up to three toppingsMultiple choice, Max options 3
Any number of extrasOptional, Max options empty

A Min options of 1 or more makes the add-on required: guests cannot add the dish until they have chosen. Max options cannot be lower than the minimum.

  4. Add the options

Under Options, give each option a name and a price; Add option adds a row. Option names are written per language: switch the language above the rows. A free option, such as whole milk, has a price of 0.

Each row also has Tags — the option's dietary tags, allergens, spiciness and badges — and Nutrition, its portion and calories. They work as on a dish: see Dish details.

  5. Describe the whole add-on, if needed

Tags & dietary info below the options holds tags that describe the add-on as a whole. Under Image you can keep a picture with it in your media library; the guest menu does not show add-on pictures.

  6. Save

Select Create addon. The add-on's page opens. It is offered with no dish yet.

Prices are entered in your organization's default currency, like a dish's. If your role cannot change prices, the price fields are disabled and a new option is saved at a price of 0.

Offer an add-on with a dish

An add-on is offered with a dish within one menu, so the same dish can come with oat milk in the Breakfast menu and without it in the Drinks menu. Add-ons are offered from the dish's page, or while you arrange the menu in the menu builder.

Who can do this: Owner, Admin, Content manager, and Content editor, and at their location: Location manager

  1. Open the dish's Add-ons tab

Open the product under Products and select the Add-ons tab. It has one card for each menu the dish is in. A dish on no menu shows Not placed in any menu: place it in a menu first.

  2. Attach the add-on

On the menu's card, select Attach, search for the add-on and pick it. It is offered with the dish in that menu at once.

    1. Attach offers another add-on with the dish in this menu.
  3. Order and remove

When a dish has several add-ons in a menu, the arrows move one up or down: guests see them in this order. The cross detaches it from the dish in that menu. An add-on with a minimum shows Required.

Change an add-on

  • Options: on the add-on's Options tab, rename options in each language, change prices, add or remove options, then select Save changes.
  • Name and rules: select Edit, change them and save.
  • Where it is used: the Usage tab lists every dish that offers the add-on in any menu; select one to open it.

A change reaches every dish that offers the add-on. Deleting an add-on with Delete removes it and its options from every dish, and cannot be undone.

A location or a menu can rename an add-on or change its options' prices for itself — see Change dishes for one location and Change dishes for one menu.

What guests see

When a guest opens a dish, they see each of its add-ons with its rule: how many to choose for a required one, or how many they may pick. With a single choice they pick one option, and a required single choice starts with its first option selected. The prices of the chosen options add to the dish's price.
