Print and place your QR codes
Add codes for a language or a table number, download or print them, and check every code before guests rely on it.
Every page a location serves already has a code that works. Download it, print it, and put it where guests sit or walk in.
Before you start
- The location serves the menu guests should open — see Choose the menus a location serves.
- Your codes look the way you want — see Design your QR codes.
Anyone who can open the location can download and print its codes. Adding and deleting codes takes the permission below.
Who can do this: Owner, Admin, Content manager, and Marketing, and at their location: Location manager
Get a code
Open the location's codes
Open the location from Locations and go to its QR codes tab. Each card is a page guests can open: the Location page, then each menu the location serves, starting with the one marked Default menu. Copy copies the page's link, and the arrow next to it opens the page.
Add codes for a language or a table, if you need them
The Plain code is always there. For a code that opens the page a certain way, click Add codes on its card:
- Under Open the menu in a language, pick one or more languages.
- Under Table number, choose a Range of numbers or a Custom list of names separated by commas, such as Bar, Terrace 1.
- With both, One code for every language × table pair makes a code for each pair; switched off, you get one code per language and one per table.
The line at the bottom counts the codes to be added; the button next to it adds them. A code that already exists is skipped.
Download or print it
Every code on the card has the same buttons.
- Add codes adds codes to this page.
- Preview shows the code large, with the address it holds.
- PNG downloads it as an image.
- Print opens it alone on a page: print it, or save it as a PDF from the print dialog.
A downloaded PNG is about 1,000 pixels square, drawn in your design. On the QR codes page, All codes has the same download and print buttons for each page's plain code.
Deleting a code only takes it off the list: copies already printed keep working, because the address is inside the code itself.
Size and contrast
General printing advice, not product rules:
- Size. A phone reads a code from about ten times its width. Around 3 cm (1¼ in) suits a table; a door or a window needs much more. Print one copy at the final size and scan it before printing the rest.
- Contrast. A dark code on a light background scans best. Keep strong contrast between Code color and Background; a pale code, or a light code on a dark background, is harder for some phones to read.
- Margin. The downloaded image has only a thin edge around the code, so leave a blank border around it when you lay it out. Don't print it over a photo or a pattern.
- Logo. A larger logo hides more of the code. If a code with a logo scans slowly, make the logo smaller or raise Error correction in the design.
- Finish. Glossy lamination can reflect light into the camera; matte reads more easily under lamps.
Where to place them
- The Location page code: the entrance, the window, flyers and packaging — anywhere guests choose between your menus.
- The default menu's code: tables, the counter, the bar — wherever guests read the menu.
- Another menu's code: next to what it covers, such as the drinks list on the bar.
- A code in a language: a sign for guests who read it.
- For orders from the table, use each table's own code from the Tables tab — see Turn on guest ordering.
Test every code
- Before printing, open Preview and scan the code from the screen with your phone.
- Check that the right page opens, in the right language.
- After printing, scan the code where it will hang, in that light and from where guests sit or stand — with more than one phone if you can.
