Get notifications on a phone or computer
Turn on notifications so a device hears of new orders, waiter calls and bills while the board isn't on screen, even with the screen locked.
On this page
The board chimes while it is on screen. Notifications reach a device when it isn't: when the dashboard is in another tab, the browser is closed or the phone is locked in a waiter's pocket. Each device turns them on for itself, for the location its board shows.
Who can do this: Owner, Admin, and Finance, and at their location: Location manager, Shift lead, Floor staff, and Kitchen
What a device is notified of
A device is notified of what it is for at the location — the choice beside the sound button, see What this device is for:
- Everything
- Notified of
- New orders, waiter calls, bill requests and dishes ready to serve
- Kitchen
- Notified of
- New orders
- Floor
- Notified of
- Waiter calls, bill requests and dishes ready to serve
| Choice | Notified of |
|---|---|
| Everything | New orders, waiter calls, bill requests and dishes ready to serve |
| Kitchen | New orders |
| Floor | Waiter calls, bill requests and dishes ready to serve |
An order nobody accepts in time reaches every device with notifications on, whatever it is for. Arrivals of one kind share one notification, which names the latest and, when more than one waits, starts with how many — "(3) Table 5 · new order" — and selecting it opens the board at that ticket. A notification names the table, or a pickup order by its number — never a guest, a note or what was ordered.
While a device shows the board in front of you, its sound alerts you instead and no notification appears. When the board is muted, notifications pause with it and come back when the mute ends.
Turn on notifications
Open the device menu
On the Orders page, open the button beside the sound button and select Notifications on this device.
Turn them on
Select Turn on notifications. The browser asks whether TableQR may show notifications; allow it.
Send a test
Select Send a test notification. Within a few seconds the device shows a notification — lock the phone first to see it as your staff will.
- Turn on notifications asks the browser for permission and turns them on.
Turn on Online payments to also be notified when a guest pays online, whatever the device is for. To stop notifications on a device, select Turn off on this device in the same window. Signing out of the dashboard turns them off for that device too.
- Online payments adds online payments.
- Send a test notification sends a test to this device.
- Turn off on this device stops notifications here.
On an iPhone or iPad
An iPhone or iPad shows notifications only from apps on its Home Screen, so add TableQR there first. It needs iOS 16.4 or later.
Open the dashboard in Safari
Sign in to the dashboard in Safari on the iPhone or iPad.
Add it to the Home Screen
Tap Share, then Add to Home Screen, then Add. The dashboard's icon appears on the Home Screen.
Turn on notifications from the app
Open TableQR from the Home Screen, sign in, and turn on notifications as above. Opened in Safari instead, the window shows these steps under Add TableQR to your Home Screen.
When notifications are blocked
If someone refused the browser's question, the window says notifications are blocked. Only the browser's settings undo that:
- On a computer or an Android phone, select the icon at the start of the address bar, set Notifications to Allow, and reload the page.
- On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings, then Notifications, then TableQR, and turn on Allow Notifications.
Then select Turn on notifications again. If a test never arrives, check the device's own notification settings and that Do Not Disturb or a Focus mode is off.
