Add photos and manage the media library

Give each dish a photo, reuse photos you already uploaded, see where an image is used, and keep within your plan's storage.

Every image you upload — for a dish, an add-on, a menu, a location or your logo — goes into one media library for the whole organization, under Images. An image can be used in many places at once: the same photo can show a dish and a location's gallery without being uploaded twice.

Give a dish its photo

A product has one photo, shown on its dish card and when a guest opens it.

Who can do this: Owner, Admin, Content manager, and Content editor

  1. Open the dish's Images tab

Open the product and select the Images tab. The same controls are under Images in the product's form.

  2. Add the photo

Select Add photo to upload a file from your device, or Choose from library to pick a photo already in the library. JPEG, PNG, WebP and AVIF files are accepted.

  3. Check it

On the tab, the photo is saved as soon as it has uploaded, and every menu that shows the dish shows it. In the product's form, it is attached when you save the form.

  1. Replace photo uploads a new file in its place.
  2. Choose from library swaps it for a photo you already uploaded.
  3. Remove image takes it off the dish.

Removing or replacing a dish's photo never deletes the image: it stays in the library, ready to be used again. While a file uploads, its tile shows its progress; a failed upload keeps its tile with Retry upload.

A location or a menu can show its own photo of a dish — see Change dishes for one location and Change dishes for one menu.

The media library

  1. Upload adds photos to the library. You can also drop files on the dashed area.
  2. How much of your plan's storage your images and fonts use.
  3. Show every image, or only the ones Not used.

Upload several photos here at once — a shoot of the new menu, say — and pick them later for dishes, menus and locations with Choose from library. Each tile says where the image is used, or Not attached, and its size.

Where an image is used

Select an image to open it.

  1. Each place the image is used: select one to open the page where it is set. Delete, below, deletes the image from the library.
  2. Open original shows the file at full size.

Delete images

Deleting an image from the library removes it from every place it is used: the dialog says how many places will lose it before you confirm. In the Not used view, one button deletes every image nothing uses, which frees their storage.

Storage

Your plan limits the storage your images and brand fonts take, not how many images you keep. The meter on the Images page shows how much is used; how much each plan includes is in Limits and usage. Your plan also limits the size of one file.

Before a photo is uploaded, the dashboard scales a large one down to a size that is still sharp on any screen, which keeps it from using more storage than it needs.
