Add a product
Create a dish or drink once in your catalogue, with its name and descriptions in every language, its sizes, its price and a photo.
On this page
A product is anything a guest can order: a dish, a drink, a dessert. You create it once in your organization's catalogue, and every menu that shows it uses the same product — change it once and every menu follows. Products are listed under Products.
- New product opens the form for a new product.
Who can do this: Owner, Admin, Content manager, and Content editor
Before you start
- Know the languages your organization writes its menus in: the form asks for the name and descriptions in each of them. They are set in Localization.
- Your plan sets how many products the organization can have. At the limit, a notice says so above the list and New product is hidden — see Plans and limits.
Create a product
Open the form
Open Products and select New product.
Write the name and descriptions
In Content, enter the Name, a Short description shown on the dish card and a Full description shown when a guest opens the dish. Switch language at the top of the section, or select Edit all languages at once to see every language side by side.
- The language you are writing in. The name in your default language is required.
- Edit all languages at once shows the fields of every language together.
A language you leave empty is not a gap on the menu: guests reading it see your default language's text instead.
Set the price
In Pricing, keep Single price and enter the price. If the dish comes in sizes, choose Multiple options and add one row per size — see Sizes and variants.
Choose whether guests see it
In Availability, Visible shows the dish on your menus, and Available lets guests order it. Both are on for a new product.
Add details and a photo
Optionally fill in Tags & dietary info and Portion & nutrition — see Dish details — and add a photo under Images. How the dish is drawn on the menu, under On the menu, is covered in Promote dishes on a menu.
Save
Select Create product. The product's page opens.
A new product is in your catalogue, but on no menu yet. Place it in a menu in the menu builder — guests see it once that menu is published at a location.
Sizes and variants
A product has one price, or several named options — sizes such as Small, Medium and Large, or 30 cm and 40 cm. Each option is a variant with its own name and price; guests pick one when they order, and the dish card shows the lowest price.
- Multiple options turns the single price into a list of options.
- Variant names are written per language: switch the language here.
- Add variant adds another size.
- Guests see the variants in the order of the rows.
- To go back to a single price, remove the extra options first.
- Each variant can state its own portion and nutrition — see Dish details.
Prices and currencies
The form takes the price in your organization's default currency. When your organization sells in more currencies, the price in each of them is set where that currency applies, for a location or a menu — see Prices in several currencies.
A price can also differ at one location or in one menu. That is an override, not a second product — see Change dishes for one location and Change dishes for one menu.
If your role cannot change prices, the price fields are disabled with a note, and a new variant is saved at a price of 0.
The product's page
Opening a product shows its page: the photo, name and status at the top, and its tabs below.
- Preview shows the dish as guests see it, from the catalogue's values — without any location or menu overrides.
- Edit opens the form to change anything.
- The tabs.
| Tab | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Details | The texts in each language, the Available and Visible switches, the price range, tags and nutrition |
| Variants | The variants and their prices, with their names in each language; Add a variant adds one in the default language |
| Add-ons | The add-ons offered with the dish, menu by menu — see Add-ons |
| Images | The dish's photo — see Images |
| Placements | The menus and locations that serve it — see Placements |
| Activity | Every change made to it — see History |
The switches on the Details tab save at once. The status next to the name follows them:
- Available: shown and can be ordered.
- Unavailable: shown on the menu as sold out, and cannot be ordered.
- Hidden: not shown on any menu.
Change or delete a product
Select Edit, change what you need and select Save changes. Leaving the form with unsaved changes asks first.
To delete a product, select Delete — the bin next to Edit — and confirm. It disappears from every menu, and this cannot be undone. Several products at once: Lists and bulk actions.
