Pause new orders

Stop new orders from guests for a while during a rush; orders already placed still reach your staff.

Kitchen falling behind, or a problem at the pass? Pause new orders at the location for a few minutes. The pause ends by itself, so nobody has to remember to lift it.

Who can do this: Owner and Admin, and at their location: Location manager, Shift lead, Floor staff, and Kitchen

Pause

  1. Open the location's Ordering tab

Open the location from Locations and go to its Ordering tab.

  2. Choose how long

Under Pause new orders, select how long the pause lasts: 15 or 30 minutes, 1 or 2 hours.

  1. The location's status.
  2. The pause buttons, from 15 minutes to 2 hours.

The status changes to Ordering is paused and says when orders start again. To end the pause early, select Resume now. Selecting another length while paused starts a new pause from now.

What a pause stops

While the location is paused:

  • Guests can still open the menu and fill their order, but the order page tells them the venue has paused new orders and asks them to try again shortly or to ask a member of staff.
  • The table's panel says that table requests are paused, in place of its Call a waiter and Ask for the bill buttons. A guest who has already ordered can still ask for the bill from their own bill.
  • Orders already placed reach your staff and go on as usual, and your staff can still add an order at a table themselves — see Table service.

Stop orders for longer

The longest pause is 2 hours. To stop orders for the rest of the day or longer, override Guests can order under What this location does differently on the same tab, switch it off and select Save ordering. Switch it back on when you reopen — see Turn on guest ordering.
