Change dishes for one menu
Give a dish its own name, price, photo, visibility or availability in one menu, at every location that serves it.
A dish looks the same in every menu unless you change it for one. A change made on a menu's Dish changes tab applies in that menu only, at every location that serves it: lower prices on a happy-hour menu, a smaller portion's name on the lunch menu, a dish hidden from the breakfast menu. The dish itself, and every other menu, stay as they are.
A location can change dishes too, for everything it serves. When both change the same thing, the menu's change wins — see Inheritance and overrides and Change dishes for one location.
Who can do this: Owner, Admin, Content manager, and Content editor
What a menu can change
| For | What you can change |
|---|---|
| A dish | Name and descriptions, the price of each size in each currency, the photo, whether guests see it, whether it can be ordered |
| An add-on | Its name, and the price of each option in each currency |
Everything you leave on Inherit, or empty, keeps the dish's own value. A price you fill in replaces only that currency.
Change a dish for this menu
Find the dish
On the menu's page, open the Dish changes tab. It lists the dishes of this menu; each row says whether something is changed here.
- What this menu changes about the dish — here, its price.
- Edit opens a dish this menu already changes.
- Override starts a change for a dish.
Set what changes
Click Override (or Edit) and set only what should differ on this menu. To give the dish its own name and descriptions here, switch on Override name & descriptions.
Save it
Click Save override.
Add-ons work the same way in the list below the dishes: rename the add-on or reprice its options for this menu.
Undo a change
Open the dish with Edit and click Remove override. The dish shows its own values on this menu again.
When guests see it
A change is saved with its own button, not with the menu's save bar. On a published menu guests see it right away, and the save makes a new version of the menu.
Changing prices needs a role that may change prices, and making a dish orderable or not needs one that may manage availability. Without them those fields are shown but stay as they are.
