Set up your floor and kitchen staff
Give waiters, cooks and shift leads a role at their location, and set up a tablet for the kitchen.
The people who take orders need a role at the location they work at. With a location role, a member sees that location only: its orders, calls and bills on the Orders page, and none of your other venues.
Who can do this: Owner and Admin, and at their location: Location manager
Choose a role for each person
| Role | Give it to |
|---|---|
| Floor staff | Waiters and hosts. They handle orders, calls and bill requests, take payments and manage reservations. |
| Kitchen | The kitchen. They work the orders, pause new orders and mark dishes sold out, but don't take payments. |
| Shift lead | Whoever runs a shift. Everything on the Orders page, including taking a served dish off a bill and writing off an unpaid one, plus the location's sales. |
| Location manager | The location's manager. On top of a shift lead's work, its ordering settings, tables, QR codes and team. |
You can give a location role at one location or at several. Members with an organization role, such as Owner or Admin, see every location. Everything each role may do is on Roles.
Invite them
Start an invitation
Open Team and select Invite member. Enter the person's Email.
Give the role at their location
Under Roles, find the role among Location roles and tick the location they work at. Leave the organization roles unticked.
Send it
Select Send invite. The person gets an email; once they accept it and sign in, Orders is in their sidebar.
You can send invitations once your own email address is verified. To change the role of someone already on the team, select Edit next to their role.
Set up a kitchen tablet
Any tablet, phone or computer with a web browser works; there is nothing to install and no printer to connect.
Sign in on the tablet
Sign in with an account that has the Kitchen role at the location, and open Orders. An account that works at several locations chooses one in the Location menu at the top of the page.
Switch on kitchen mode
Select Kitchen mode. The board fills the screen and the screen stays on. If the device can't go full screen or keep its screen on, a note says so; then keep it awake in the device's display settings.
Turn the sound on
Select Enable sound. Browsers play sound only after someone has tapped the page, so do this once each time the board is opened. A new order, a call for a waiter and a bill request each have a chime of their own; Mute silences them.
- Enable sound lets the board chime.
- Kitchen mode fills the screen and keeps it on.
Keep the tablet charging and the page open. The board updates by itself and shows Live while it is connected; if the connection drops, it keeps the last update on screen and catches up when it is back. Working the board is on The Orders page.
