A photo won't upload
A photo fails to upload or isn't saved: an unsupported file, full storage, a file too large, a dropped connection, and what to do about each.
On this page
When a photo can't be uploaded, its tile turns red with Upload failed and Retry upload. The tile doesn't say why, so check the causes below before you retry: for the first two, a retry fails the same way.
The file isn't a JPEG, PNG, WebP or AVIF
Only these four formats are accepted. A HEIC photo copied from an iPhone to a computer, a GIF or a PDF fails. Open the file in an image editor or your computer's photo viewer, save or export it as JPEG or PNG, and upload that file.
Your storage is full
Your plan limits the storage your photos, logos and uploaded fonts take together, and an upload that doesn't fit is refused. The meter on the Images page shows how much is used — see Storage.
- Free space: show the images marked Not used and delete those you don't need — see Delete images.
- Get more storage — see Get more room.
The file is too large
Your plan also limits the size of one file. Before uploading, the dashboard scales a large photo down to a size that is still sharp on any screen, so most photos fit. If one still fails, save it as a smaller JPEG and upload that.
The connection dropped
A photo stops uploading when the connection does, or when the server doesn't answer. Select Retry upload once you are back online. After many uploads in a short time, wait a minute before retrying.
The photo uploaded but wasn't saved
On a product's or a location's Images tab, a photo is attached as soon as it has uploaded. If attaching it fails, the tab says Couldn't save the photos. and why, with Try again. The reason is one of the messages in the error reference.
Some photos were left out
A place holds a set number of photos — a location's gallery, for example. When you pick more than fit, the extra ones are left out, and a line under the photos says how many and how many the place holds. Remove a photo to make room, then add the one you want.
There is no button to add a photo
Adding or changing a photo needs the right to edit what it belongs to: the product, the location or the menu. Deleting photos from the library needs:
