Promote dishes on a menu

Make a dish stand out, put promo banners above a menu and recommend dishes to guests.

Three tools help you sell what you most want to sell: a bigger card for a few dishes, promo banners above the menu, and dishes you recommend to guests.

Make a dish stand out

Every plan. Any dish can be drawn bigger than the standard row. The style belongs to the dish, so it applies in every menu the dish is on.

Who can do this: Owner, Admin, Content manager, and Content editor

  1. Open the dish

    Click the dish's name in the builder, or open it under Products.

  2. Pick a style

    In On the menu, choose a Display style:

    • Row — the standard line in its category;
    • Tinted card — a soft card in your brand colour;
    • Photo card — a big photo across the column, best for a dish with a good picture.

    A tinted or photo card can carry a Note: one line in your words, under the description, written in each of your languages.

  3. Save

    Click Save changes. The dish changes in every menu at once.

Keep the bigger styles for a few dishes: when everything stands out, nothing does.

Promo banners

On Pro and Ultimate. Banners tell guests about an offer, a new dish or an event, right above the menu. They are shown in the order you set: a strip is one line where you place it, and the other banners between two strips swipe as a carousel.

Who can do this: Owner, Admin, Content manager, and Marketing

  1. Add banner makes a new banner or adds one your other menus show.
  2. Shows or hides a banner on this menu.
  3. Adds a dish to the recommended row on the menu.
  4. Adds a dish to the recommendations on the bill.

Add a banner

  1. Start a banner

    On the menu's Promotions tab, click Add banner and choose New banner. To show a banner you already made for another menu, choose Add existing banner instead.

  2. Pick its look

    Choose a Template:

    TemplateWhat it is for
    Photo heroA big picture with your words on it
    Split cardWords beside a picture
    TicketA deal and its terms, such as −15%
    StripOne line for a notice

    Then a Background. Text colours come from your guest menu's theme, so every background stays readable.

  3. Write the words

    Fill in the Headline and, if you like, the other lines, in each of your languages. A ticket's value only tells guests about the deal: prices on the menu do not change.

  4. Choose what it opens

    In It opens, pick a dish, a category, another menu, the table booking form or a web page — or no button at all. A banner that opens something needs words on its Button.

  5. Save it

    Click Save banner. The editor's preview shows the banner as the guest menu draws it.

A strip can be one guests may close: tick Guests can close it. It stays closed on their phone until you change its words.

Manage banners

  • Show or hide a banner on this menu with its switch. A hidden banner keeps its words and picture for later.
  • Reorder, edit, remove or delete from the banner's actions menu. Remove from this menu takes it off this menu only; Delete banner takes it off every menu and deletes it for good, while its picture stays in your library.
  • One banner, several menus. A banner shown on other menus says so on its row. Its words, look and button are the same everywhere, so editing it changes every menu that shows it; showing, hiding and order are set per menu.

If a button opens a dish or category this menu does not have, or a menu the location does not serve, the button is hidden on this menu rather than leading nowhere.

Recommend dishes

On Pro and Ultimate. You pick the dishes guests see first, in two lists:

  • On the menu — a row above the categories and on the guest's orders page;
  • On the bill — a few dishes on the bill page, before guests ask for it.

Who can do this: Owner, Admin, Content manager, and Marketing

In each list, click Add a dish and pick a dish of this menu; move dishes up or down, or remove them. A list with no dishes is not shown to guests. If a recommended dish later leaves the menu, guests no longer see it.

When guests see it

Banners and recommended dishes are saved as you make them, without the menu's save bar, and on a published menu guests see them right away. Adding, hiding or moving a banner and changing the recommended dishes each make a new version of a published menu.

If your plan no longer includes promotions, guests stop seeing banners and recommended dishes, and the tab offers an upgrade. Nothing is deleted: everything comes back with the plan, and meanwhile you can still hide, remove and delete banners and clear recommendations.
