Guests don't see your changes
You changed a dish, a price or a menu, but the guest menu still shows the old one: the causes, most likely first, and how to fix each.
On this page
You changed something in the dashboard, but the menu on a guest's phone — or on yours — still shows it the old way. Go through the causes below in order; the first ones are the most common.
To check each fix, open the guest menu the way a guest does: scan the code, or open the menu's link, and reload the page.
The change isn't saved or published
In the menu builder, your edits wait in the bar at the bottom of the page until you select Save changes. Some parts of a menu have their own save button instead — the schedule, the changes to dishes for this menu.
Then look at the status next to the menu's name:
- Published: saving put your changes live.
- Draft, In review or Paused: guests see none of this menu until it is published. A menu in review waits for someone to approve it, and a publication set for later waits for its time.
How saving and publishing work: Drafts, publishing and versions. To put a menu live: Publish a menu.
Guests are looking at another menu
A location's QR code opens its default menu, so a change to another menu doesn't show there. A new menu reaches guests only once a location serves it.
On the location's Menus tab, check that the menu you changed is listed, that its Enabled switch is on, and which menu is marked Default. See Choose the menus a location serves and, when a code opens the wrong one, A QR code opens the wrong menu.
A location or a menu overrides what you changed
A value you change on a dish reaches every place that doesn't override it. Where a location or a menu has its own price, name, photo, visibility or availability for the dish, guests there see that value instead — and when both have one, the menu's wins.
Open the product and its Placements tab: a row marked Overridden has values of its own there. Change the override, or select Remove override to make that place follow the dish again. See Inheritance and overrides and See where a product is served.
Settings work the same way: a setting marked Overridden on a location's Settings tab doesn't follow the organization — see Change a location's settings.
A new dish isn't on that menu
A product appears only in the menus you put it in. Its Placements tab lists every menu and location that shows it. If the menu guests open isn't there, add the dish to one of its categories in the menu builder and save — see Build a menu.
A dish whose Visible switch is off isn't shown on any menu — see Add a product.
The menu isn't served right now
Outside its serving hours, a menu opens with This menu isn't being served right now at the top, and guests can't order from it. A category with hours of its own shows its dishes with the time they can be ordered again.
Check the menu's Schedule tab, and the clock next to the menu on the location's Menus tab: a location can serve a menu on hours of its own. See Schedule, pause and archive a menu and Schedule a menu at a location.
The page on the phone was already open
Once a change is live, a guest who opens or reloads the menu sees it straight away. A menu already open on a phone updates itself within about two minutes, while it is on screen — see How fast changes reach guests.
- A tab left in the background doesn't look for changes until it is on screen again. Reload it to be sure.
- A phone without a connection keeps showing the menu it saved, with a bar saying it is offline, and catches up once it is back online — see When a guest's connection drops.
Still the old version after a reload, with everything above in order? Write to support with the menu's link, what you changed and when.
