Add dietary tags, allergens and nutrition
Tell guests what is in a dish — dietary claims, allergens and traces, spiciness, badges, portion, nutrition and preparation time.
On this page
Before ordering, guests ask what a title cannot answer: can I eat this, will it make me ill, how hot is it, is it a snack or a meal. Each dish answers with its tags, its allergens, its portion and nutrition, and the time it takes to prepare. Guests see the tags on the dish card and can filter the menu by them.
Every planWho can do this: Owner, Admin, Content manager, and Content editor
Where you set them
Open the product, select Edit and scroll to Tags & dietary info and Portion & nutrition. Save with Save changes. The product's Details tab shows both as guests will see them, with Edit tags and Edit portion & nutrition to change them.
These details belong to the recipe, so they are the same in every menu and at every location: no location or menu can override them.
Tags and allergens
- Badges make a dish stand out: New, Chef's choice or a label of your own. Pick from your organization's badges, or create one on the spot with Add badge. The form says how many badges one dish can wear. The list itself is managed in Tags and badges.
- Dietary claims are the dish's promises, such as Vegan, Gluten-free or Halal. Guests can filter the menu by them.
- Spiciness is one level: Not spicy, Mild, Medium or Hot.
- Allergens are the 14 that EU law requires a menu to declare.
Guests will see at the bottom of the section shows the tags exactly as guests will.
Declaring allergens
Allergens start as Not specified. Choose Declared to state them, then:
- under Contains, select the allergens the dish contains;
- under May contain traces of, select the ones it may carry from your kitchen. An allergen the dish contains is not offered as a trace.
Declared with nothing selected means the dish contains none of the 14, and guests are told so. Not specified is different: guests read that allergen information is not provided, and while they filter out an allergen the dish is hidden — for a guest with an allergy, unknown is not safe. To find the dishes still waiting for their allergens, filter the products list by Allergens not specified — see Lists and bulk actions.
When tags contradict each other — a vegan dish that contains milk — the form shows These tags contradict each other. It is a warning: you can still save, since you know your recipe.
Portion, nutrition and preparation time
- Values are stated: per portion, or per 100 g or 100 ml, matching the portion's unit.
- Portion size is in grams or millilitres.
- Preparation time is in minutes, from order to table.
Every field is optional, and guests see only what you fill in: a weight alone, calories alone or a full label are all complete answers. Under Nutrition facts, enter Calories, Protein, Fat and Carbs the way your recipe card or supplier's label states them. Calories are in kcal.
The form warns, without stopping you, when the calories do not match protein, fat and carbs, or when values are per 100 g or 100 ml and the portion is not given, so guests could not see them per portion. It refuses only what cannot be true, such as more than 100 g of protein, fat and carbs in 100 g of food.
Sizes with their own portion
A dish sold in sizes states its facts once and lets each size differ where it does. In Pricing, each variant's row has its own portion and nutrition button:
- left empty, the variant uses the product's portion and nutrition, and the button reads As product;
- filled in, the variant's portion or nutrition replaces the product's as a whole — never one number at a time.
For a cappuccino, state the nutrition once per 100 ml on the product and give each size only its volume (250, 350, 450 ml): guests see the values for the size they choose. Preparation time belongs to the product: it does not change with the size of the cup.
Add-on options
Each option of an add-on carries the same tags, allergens, portion and nutrition, so "Extra mozzarella" can declare milk and add its own calories. You set them on the option's row — see Add-ons.
What guests see
Guests see badges, dietary tags, spiciness and allergens on the dish card, and the allergen statement, portion and nutrition when they open the dish. They can filter the menu by dietary tags and allergens — see What guests see.
